Ok, so, my bio teacher is nothing less than a genius. He just says things straight out and instead of just lecturing, he makes you think. I know, thinking is tough. So, today, we got on the topic of high school, and how everybody wants to change things about themselves. "I want to be taller" "I want to be skinnier" "I want to be more muscular" "I want clearer skin" "I want to be prettier" "I want to be more tan" "I want to have more boobs" "I want to have a bigger.....ya". People believe that they are going through one of the most influencial times in their life alone. They believe that they are silently suffering, hoping and dreaming that they are something other then what they are.
All I have to say to that is: You're not alone. You're not the only one who wants to be more tan. You're not the only one wishing they had straight A's. You're not the only one wishing they had all the money in the world. You're not the only one wishing that they looked similar to the girl everyone likes. You're not the only guy who wishes that he was built similar to the head football star. You're not alone.
I know you are told this your whole life, but stop trying to be something your not. I woke up one day and felt that I wasn't good enough. Everyone will at one point feel like they are'nt enough, or that they don't fit in. But, in reality, those people who everyone wants to be, the football star, the head cheerleader, the class president, they all have something in common: they want to fit in just as much as everyone else does. From a person view, I knew all of the sterotypes: the jocks, the preps, the nerds, the asians, the freaks, the goths, the latinos, the indians, the loners. I knew most of them and I was glad I did. By getting to know the people around me instead of sticking with the same group everyday of my life, I expanded and it was the best decision.
I'm not saying never judge yourself again, because I can't even do that. Judging people and yourself is a natural and habitual action that no one can help. So, focus on yourself rather then what you don't have. If your not that tan, work your pale skin. Use what you have and flaunt it. If your not the 4.0 student, because heaven knows I'm not, work that much harder. Instead of playing video games 5 hours a day, use one of those hours and just open your text book or glance over some notes. Taking that extra step will add up and pull off better grades.
So, when you look at other people or just look at your flaws and think, "I wish I was better," you're not alone. Do not silently struggle forever. Do not bottle up all of your feelings, let them out. My friend once told me that you make your own destiny, and don't live off the maybe's or the wishes. Make your own future, one level at a time. Well, thats enough about that, I'm Kimberly Beaudin, and you stay classy, San Diego.
