Ok, well, everyone listens to music. Well, if you don't, I'm sorry and you are being deprived. But BACK TO THE POINT: People listen to music, but many don't really listen.
Music artists really deserve the name "artist" because with their words, they create a sense of feeling or a certain emotion to portray a time or event. People use music to express how they feel because just stating them would not truly show their real meaning.
Here are some music quotes that I have found that show real meaning:
~Classic rock at heart, yet I do have another side called Alternative. My charateristics are rock and roll. Folk is when I have something to say; rap is when I have a lot to say. My happiness shines through pop. I laugh throughcountry, I cry through the blues, I dance through hip hop, and I sing through opera. Ambient-- my nature, techno-- my craziness, R&B-- my love life,classical-- my relaxation, emo-- my anger, and gospel-- my religion (which is practiced through reggae, my spirituality). Jazz is my superficiality. And for anyone special in my life, tango since two can tango (and they can salsa).Indie is my unheard of nature (and trust me, I am very often unheard). Punkis my rebellious self, which sprung through my deep dark secrets in heavy metal. Acoustic is when I am best heard, soft rock is when I am best known. My confusion is trance. My actions are disco. Generally, foreign = my nationality. Renaissance, my history. And if people ever met me, they'd describe me as rhapsody. I can be best heard through my characteristics, acoustic rock; be rebellious from my characteristics, punk rock; and be natural because it's my characteristic, ambient rock.
~Her favorite song will say more about her than her mouth ever will.
~I guess i couldn't find the words to make you stay to keep you right here with me, but even though you walked away, i'm still right here waiting.
~I cannot speak, I've lost my voice. I'm speechless and redundant cause "I love you" is not enough, I'm lost for words.
~Something just isn't right, I can feel it inside, the truth isn't far behind me, you can't deny, when i turn the lights out, when i close my eyes, reality comes over me, I'm living a lie
~People killing people dying, children hurtin you hear them crying, can you practice what you preach, would you turn the other cheek? Father Father Father help us, send some guidance from above, cause people got me got me questioning, where is the love?
Lyrics add meaning to a song, but without the melody behind it they have no power. I think that they are very important to songs, but no they are not the be all and end all. Personally, I think a good guitar, drums and bass gives the vocals the depth they need. Everything in a good song compliments each other, no piece is more important than another.
For a song to be something special, the lyric needs to be great. It's all taste though. One persons genius can be another's trash.
As I get older I find myself more drawn to lyrics. It doesn't have to be something profound. A bad lyric can destroy a good song - worst are 'try hard lyrics' where the writer really wants to be clever and articulate, but just can't cut it. A lot of pop doesn't even try this, so you've got to judge that on it's own terms. It sets the bar lower.
